Camping Day

On Wednesday, March 5th, the 2nd and 3rd graders participated in World Read Aloud Day. The class was split up into 12 groups that included 2nd graders from Mrs. Freese's class as well as 3rd graders. These groups traveled through 12 sessions. Each session incorporated reading or math. The students received a badge for each session that they participated in. At the end of the day students that earned their badges got to make s'mores. (This was the favorite for most of the class!)
I've added some pictures of Mr. Loew showing the second graders how to pitch a tent. He also showed the kids his hiking bag and how he packs all of his camping gear. Jeremy and Kiana even got to try on his back pack. Eli got to help Mr. Loew pitch his tent.

Naturalist visit

The class welcomed a trumpeter swan this past week. The class loved listening to the swan honk! They even got to feel the swan's feathers! Here are some pictures of the swan visit:

Happy Valentine's Day!

We celebrated Valentine's Day with a party on Thursday, February 13th. The class had a lot of fun! We enjoyed yummy cupcakes and juice. The class participated in several games. They played "Love Match" where they had to find out which Disney character they were by asking questions, and then find that character's love match. They also ran a relay where each person took turns crossing the 'lava' on two giant hearts. They came up with some very interesting strategies! Finally, they played a Minute to Win It game. They had to use a straw to suck up 6 skittles and place them in their other cup. The class had a great time! Here are some pictures from our party:

Monday, January 27th was our 100th Day of School. We had some yummy treats, and got to decorate these very cool "100" glasses. Each student had to put 100 of something on their glasses.

If I lived in a Snow globe

The class wrote stories about themselves stuck in a snow globe. The stories turned out very cute! Each student got to share their story with the class.

Meet Marshall!

I received a grant through Pets in the Classroom that allowed me to purchase a leopard gecko from PetSmart. I was also able to purchase the desert terrarium, and some desert decor.

We named the gecko "Marshall" although we think our gecko may be a girl. Marshall is 5 months old, and it is hard to tell at this age what gender she (or he) is. Marshall eats crickets and mealworms. She ate 3 crickets today, and will eat 4 mealworms tomorrow. We will alternate back and forth each day. Each student, if they wish, will be able feed Marshall. Marshall is nocturnal, but she will come out to eat her food. She needs a little bit of time to get used to being in our classroom. She had a busy weekend - leaving the pet store, moving into Mrs. Wingert's house, and then moving to the classroom. Once she is settled and feels more comfortable, we may see her more often.

I will add a few websites with information about leopard geckos to the right side of my blog. Feel free to check them out!
