Earth Day
Today is Earth Day! We celebrated by reading The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. After reading the Lorax, the class cut out their own Lorax mustaches. The class then wrote about Earth Day using the prompt "If I was the Lorax, I would..."

Special Guest
This morning, we had a very special guest visit. Dean Jacobs stopped by to talk about his world travels. He shared some amazing pictures of his trip along the Amazon. The class was so excited to hear about this part of the world. It was neat to see people that live so differently from us.
Then, he came to our room and did a 'Writer's Workshop'. He showed the class step by step how he put together his own book. This couldn't have come at a better time, since the class is working on their very own animal research and writing. You can find out more about Dean Jacobs at www.deanjacobs.org.

Grandparent's Day
The second graders really enjoyed Grandparent's Day. Our grandparents were able to watch our dress rehearsal of our Spring Concert. Following the concert, the students were able to take their grandparents to enjoy cookies and juice or coffee. They were then able to head to the book fair. Also, they spent some time in the classroom where they were able to pick from several different activities. Here are some pictures of the class with their grandparents:

Camping Day
On Wednesday, March 5th, the 2nd and 3rd graders participated in World Read Aloud Day. The class was split up into 12 groups that included 2nd graders from Mrs. Freese's class as well as 3rd graders. These groups traveled through 12 sessions. Each session incorporated reading or math. The students received a badge for each session that they participated in. At the end of the day students that earned their badges got to make s'mores. (This was the favorite for most of the class!)
I've added some pictures of Mr. Loew showing the second graders how to pitch a tent. He also showed the kids his hiking bag and how he packs all of his camping gear. Jeremy and Kiana even got to try on his back pack. Eli got to help Mr. Loew pitch his tent.
Naturalist visit
The class welcomed a trumpeter swan this past week. The class loved listening to the swan honk! They even got to feel the swan's feathers! Here are some pictures of the swan visit:
